4: Nikon Aculon Rangefinder

best archery rangefinder

Now, this rangefinder is a beauty with brains. This is a sleek rangefinder with a compact design so you can carry it anywhere and everywhere!

Nikon enjoys its reputation among the best lenses, and Nikon Aculon rangefinder is a testimony that this reputation is authentic! The Aculon has the following specification:

  • Range: 550 yards
  • One-button operation
  • Weight: 6.40 ounces
  • Uncluttered LCD Display
  • Water resistant

Nikon Aculon is a great choice for bow hunters who like style, and enjoy luxury. This style is due to the look of the rangefinder, while many of the features are similar to other devices in the market.

The waterproof factor makes this rangefinder an all-rounder when it comes to various types of hunting. Whether you are near water or want to remain safe from rain, this feature of Nikon Aculon keeps you carefree and focused on the game.

The comfortable features of this rangefinder include the one-button operation, making it simple to use, while the display is on point. You will not have to struggle with the sight as it works well in all light conditions.

Nikon Aculon is the most compact out of all the rangefinders by Nikon, and is portable enough to be compared with smartphones!

The feature we loved the most? It has to be the distance measurement at the push of a single button!

Pros of the Nikon Aculon

  • Continuous scan feature for a stream of distance measurements for up to 20 seconds
  • Power saving after 8 seconds of inactivity
  • 18mm eye relief makes it easier for people with glasses
  • Distant Target Priority Mode for accurate ranges

Cons of the Nikon Aculon

While the advertised range of Aculon is 550 yards; we found it hard to target smaller prey beyond 100 yards.

What I disliked was the inability to lock a target that was far but small. For instance, if you aim at a tree beyond 100 yards, it must have an expanse of leaves or should be thick enough to be detected!

Nikon Aculon rangefinder requires larger targets for accurate lock and aim. If you are looking for a rangefinder for small prey, it has to be within 100 yards, as beyond that, your prey should either be standing next to a bigger object or should be big for the Nikon Aculon to lock the target!

5: WOSPORTS 1000 Yards Hunting Rangefinder

bow hunting rangefinder

When you tire of cheaper options and want a real rangefinder for the love of hunting, pick up the WOSPORTS 1000, and you won’t regret it.

My first impression of this rangefinder was not the best. It appeared to be small, but after trying it on the range, I had to give it some extra points for accuracy!

  • Speed, Scan, and Hunt Technology provides fast measurement
  • Continuous Scan Mode allows fast measurement with +/- 0.3 yards accuracy
  • Magnification, 6X
  • Lightweight, and Portable

Can be carried easily with the neck lanyard.

The build of this rangefinder is not only a good sight but is sturdy and compact.

You can rely on the battery life during long hunting trips, and the accuracy of this rangefinder will ensure that you remain out there for longer!

At first glance, the WOSPORTS 1000 was not my first choice, but many features make it a good option for all hunters. You will like the portability and range, especially.

Pros of the WOSPORTS 1000 Yards Hunting Rangefinder

  • WOSPORTS extraordinary range of 1000 yards with continuous scan mode
  • Multi-layer optical lens with an easy read
  • WOSPORTS 1000 can be used in larger fields, including golf courses

Cons of the WOSPORTS 1000 Yards Hunting Rangefinder

  • WOSPORTS rangefinder case locks by a magnet, which can open in the bag
  • Low accuracy with moving objects
  • Small readings, sometimes not clear

You will have to ensure that either your prey is still, or that you have a good idea of how far to shoot.

The WOSPORTS 1000 range is good, but it does not fare well with any moving prey. You will require a long time to focus, or if you shoot in haste, the results might not be 100% spot on!

6: Bushnell Bone Collector Hunting Rangefinder

rangefinder for bow hunters

The Bushnell rangefinders are light, and this one is no exception. I liked the light and easy to handle device, which looked very promising. The camouflaged rangefinder has a compact design, yet remains very sturdy.

Bushnell Bone Collector gets its name due to the hunting success you will achieve in the wild with this rangefinder!

Before we dive into the exciting features and how they can work for all of us, let’s see the specifications:

  • Range between 10 and 600 yards
  • LCD in black
  • Accuracy of +/- 1 yard
  • Measuring distance: line of sight
  • Used for rifle and target shooting

If you appreciate sleek, compact yet fully-loaded rangefinders, this is a good choice. For beginners, it is a reliable and dependable device that can help measure long distances and ensure success!

It is light to carry around and will not disappoint you when aim and shoot. Among the best-seller rangefinders of the day, Bushnell Bone Collector is good for not just measuring but also allows yardage for shooting and enjoying the optics that help shoot down any prey!

The Bushnell rangefinders are famous for their precision and good performance. Bushnell Bone Collector has numerous advantages over other range finders.

  • Realtree Skin, which gives it a beautiful look.
  • Compact,
  • Easy to use.
  • Good for elk and deer hunting.

Cons of the Bushnell Bone Collector:

  • Many hunters might not lie this rangefinder as it is better for close-range hunting. With distance, the precision reduces, so you may want to consider this factor.

We liked this rangefinder as it was compact, light, and as you look through it, the magnification excites the hunter inside!

For me, this rangefinder has the edge over the others due to its features, but if you seek some long-distance aiming, you should explore some more!

This rangefinder connects with your smartphone, and you can calculate distances for both bow hunting and rifle shooting. You will not miss your prey with this precise and accurate rangefinder. The measurements are on-point, but of course, you should know how to calculate!

A person like me might not understand the operation of the application, and hence the working of this rangefinder becomes complicated.

However, if you are good with conversions and application maneuvering, this device is good for you!

The ATN 1000 Ballistics is equipped with the ability to range targets 1000 yards away and enhance your hunting experience with the various modes of this rangefinder.

Pros of the ATN Laser Ballistics 1000

  • Complicated calculations are made with precision within seconds
  • Increases the success of killing prey
  • Pairs with ATN smart scope and other compatible devices
  • Connects with smartphones
  • Most accurate

Cons of the ATN Laser Ballistics 1000

With the ATN 1000 Ballistics, you need a lot of other skills, which makes it a lesser choice for hunters like me.

  • Complicated calculations might not be everyone’s choice
  • Time-consuming set-up
  • Auto shutdown can be a good feature but causes delays as it requires restarting

All in all, the ATN 1000 Ballistics Hunting rangefinder is a good buy for those who like technical hunting. For many of us who like the old style wild hunting of the west, this rangefinder is a little advanced.

However, it remains one of the most accurate gadgets out there!

rangefinders for bows

Well, for this rangefinder, not only does it look good, it comes with a lot of features that make it even better. As I tried the Laser Works LW1000Pro, it revealed a lot of qualities that make it a good choice for hunters.

  • High Measure performance 5 to 1000 yards performance, with maximum range of 1600 yards for a highly reflective target
  • Water-resistant and dust resistant
  • One-key operation
  • Fog mode, flagpole locking
  • Continuous scan feature
  • Palm and Friendly for pockets

If you thought it couldn’t get any smaller, here’s a rangefinder that can embarrass a candy bar for its length! This rangefinder will be a good sports partner for all hunters and golfers too!

Many users claim that the features of this rangefinder are much more in value than the price of this device. However, we set out to judge it ourselves, and all that we observed is that it is compact, accurate, and yes, good for the price!

This device comes with a lanyard to carry it around for easy access. If you hold this compact rangefinder and peer through it, the magnification is impressive. You can measure distances and even target smaller objects.

The unique modes of Laser Works LW1000PRO display vertical and horizontal distances. This feature makes it a golfer’s weapon as it helps assess the trajectory.

Now you can ace both the sports with this small device! Another very essential edge of this rangefinder is the 21-mm objective lens, with a 6X zoom. The telescope uses a multi-layer broadband green film and offers a light transmission rate of 98.6%.

All these advantages make this rangefinder a good purchase, but is there a downside to this compact device?

  • LaserWorks LW1000Pro has just one uncomfortable feature that it switches off after some time. And this makes it a tough instrument to switch on after some time. You will have to restart this gadget multiple times, especially if you spend a long time on the golf course or in the wild!

9: Simmons Volt 600 Laser Rangefinder

rangefinder hunting

You might find this line boring by now, but the Simmons Volt 600 is a good purchase for its price, and one of the best archery rangefinders. How? Well, there are more than a few reasons for hunters to choose this rangefinder. Here are the specs at a glance:

  • Magnification 4X
  • Maximum range of 600 yards
  • Converting yards to meters for convenience
  • Class 1 laser, compatible with the human eye
  • Weatherproof features

The 4X magnification is not top of the line, but it is significant for the price and not a bad feature if you are only aiming at 600 yards.

The Simmons Volt 600 comes with a 22mm lens, which provides a clear image. The advertised quality of the rangefinder lens is ‘crystal clear,’ and I cannot complain!

The weatherproof feature makes this rangefinder water-resistant and dustproof, but you must not carelessly expose it to any bad weather conditions such as rain or burying it in the sand!

Pros of the Simmons Volt 600

  • Excellent range of 600yards
  • Tilt intelligence calculates the reliable distance

Buying Guide: Best Rangefinder for Bow Hunting or Rifle Shooting

In deciding upon a rangefinder to accessorize and improve your hunting game, there are a few points that should be your first priority to investigate and check-off.

Your prey

If you are dealing with a small game, your rangefinder should be one that can lock a small target. There can be many top-rated rangefinders that might not target smaller game.

Out of all the devices mentioned above, there are a few shorter-range gadgets that allow aiming for a smaller game that may be on the move too!

Archery or shooting?

Archery and bow hunting are almost always performed over shorter distances that shooting. The best archery rangefinders typically have a short range of less than 1000 yards, whereas those using firearms will typically go for a longer range option. That being said, rangefinders that are designed for rifle shooters can still perform fantastically for bow hunters.

For archery, you do not require lasers for remote shooting, neither would you require a library of bullet ballistics.

For effective bow hunting, you will require a rangefinder with accurate angle compensation. This angle compensation will aid in your angle calculation of the exact distance even at an extreme angle.

For example, a hunter in the tree may be able to aim at a deer passing below, without much hassle due to a lack of angle compensation.

Time of hunting

Some rangefinders are excellent, but they do not offer good sight at all times of the day. Twilight hunting might require a laser scope, and the lens must be one that allows good vision without reflections.

Similarly, bright light requires rangefinders with a lens that does not cause glare. Do you spend hours out in the woods? If yes, choose your range finder keeping this factor in mind!

Range

Once you know the nature of your hunting adventure, select the range that is ideal for your shots. If you want to shoot farther, or are hunting big game from a distance-large range is perfect.

However, as we discussed earlier, the smaller game can be tracked within a shorter range. Most of the high-range rangefinders are also used for golfing or for target shooting.

Wild hunting might be successful with a short-range rangefinder. Note that short-range does not mean very small distance, but refers to the lesser ranged devices mentioned above.

Close target sensitivity

While the range determines the farthest distance that can be calculated, close target sensitivity determines the closest length that you can aim at.

For deer hunting, or even small prey hunting with crossbows, a rangefinder that calculates accurately within yards, is the right choice for you!

Compact range finder = good hunting tool!

When out in the wild, the last thing hunters need is a rangefinder that diverts their attention from the prey.

A compact design means that you will not require too much effort to measure and then shoot accurately.

Rifle hunting rangefinders

Laser rangefinders are the best for rifle shooting. If you know your weapon, all you require is an excellent device to calculate the distance and detect targets easily.

If you prefer rifle hunting, choose a device that has a clear image of distant targets.

Large range

When looking for a reliable rangefinder, the range is what matters most! For rifle hunting, you can work best with range finders with a high range.

1000 yard range is an adequate distance; in fact, it is a great feature! You can detect a deer far away, or you can even target a smaller prey within 500 yards, the range doesn’t only improve distance coverage, but also improves chances of killing all game that you aim!

Ballistics software

Any good rangefinder for rifle-shooting will have advanced ballistics software that you can match with your rifle caliber and load.

Precision, multiple shots, and calculation of intervals are all possible with a range finder compatible with your rifle.

Accuracy on numerous targets

When trying out various rangefinders, look for one that can lock on and evaluate the distance of multiple targets and calculate the distance efficiently.

Once you possess such a tool, you will be the master in the wilderness! This accuracy comes with a good lens and magnification.

Magnification

The magnification of the lens determines the precision of the calculation. For rifle hunting, look for a device that allows 6X to 7X magnification, at least.

This will add to the Eagle Eye vision and prepare you to shoot accurately, making you a winner every time.

Lower magnifications might be the thing with lesser-priced range finders, but if you want success, you need to stick with higher features, and magnification counts as one of the most important ones!

Precision-shooting

When you are rifle shooting over a long distance, try to choose a sensitive rangefinder like your weapon.

A good rangefinder choice will be one with an accuracy of +/- 1 yard, with a range of almost 1000 yards. This will give you the open space of hunting anywhere between these distances without a worry!

During my quest for the right rangefinder, I realized that various factors might make a range finder the right pick for me, while it may not suit you.

However, the factors to consider before you pay for the purchase are all the same! Try to check all the points in the guide and then choose the rangefinder that hits home on all points.

Whether you like technical gadgets or you are a simple hunter, a rangefinder remains an essential tool to improve the sport.

Magnification, range, ballistics, and clear image are all equally important. Once you own a range finder that performs out there, you will never go hunting without it. A rangefinder may be considered an accessory, but it is essential if you want to return with some meat!

FAQ:

Which Rangefinder is best for me?

By now, you know the best range finders in the market, but which one will suit your needs the most? This question is valid, and it must be known that bowhunters will require a more straightforward range finder as they will be aiming for animals within a smaller radius.

You can purchase a mid-range device that can cover a good area and not be over your budget!

You might want to choose a waterproof mid-range device, but if there is no such option available, be careful as a range finder is an investment! You may be able to cover up to 1200 yards of land expanse with a mid-range range finder.

Does bowhunting require a laser Rangefinder?

Bowhunters don’t necessarily require a laser range finder as their hunting field is smaller than rifle hunters. You may use any range finder, but laser range finders are for long-range shooting.

Bowhunting does not require such facilities. If you use a rifle, or if you wish to have a range finder to use with both kinds of weapons, then go for a laser range finder as it will be a one-time investment for both kinds of shooting equipment.

Do all bowhunters need Rangefinders?

Again, the use of a range finder is to calculate the distance of the prey from where you are and then aim accurately. If you plan to hunt rabbits, birds, or other smaller animals-you will not need a range finder and may be able to do without one.

However, if you take up hunting as a serious sport and require additional tools to ensure accuracy and success, invest in the correct range finder and become a hunting champion!

Will I require a Range finder for deer hunting?

Deer hunters often say that shooting down an animal is tough as they move about a lot. Deer are agile and ‘hop around,’ but you will not need a range finder if you are close to their resting spots. However, before you set out on the hunting trip, make sure you know the area well.

If you set up a hunting spot far from the ‘hot spot,’ you need a range finder. Let’s say that the need for a range finder is not restricted to deer hunting but how far or close you plan to set up the tree stand or find a hiding spot.

Do we need a Range finder for hunting small animals?

You will not require a range finder for small animals as the place you will be nearby; if you are a hunting enthusiast who does not want to miss any chances, buy a mid-range range finder as they are more economical low-maintenance. In case you want to use it, you will have it in the kit!

Points to consider before buying the right Range Finder

When you go out to finally buy a range finder, you would know which one ranks well but which one is best for you? Here are some points to consider before you head out to purchase a range finder for your upcoming hunting trip.

 1: The maximum distance

The more advanced range finders include lasers, and they have come a long way as they can give accurate readings within a yard and go up to a mile even! If you are a bowhunter, you might not need a range finder to measure distances and give readings of miles; however,

if you plan to go out hunting elk or moose with a rifle, the max distance measurement feature of your range finder will come in handy!

 2: Magnification

Another essential feature to consider before you buy a range finder; the average magnification on many brands of range finders is 5 or 6x, which is suitable for bowhunting. Since crossbows and compound bows cannot allow hunting over miles, the magnification within this range will be helpful for all hunters.

Many hunters still range animals within extensive areas, and the optimal magnification of 6x will make the animal appear six times bigger than what you see without the lens! This enables hunters to have more success and shoot down animals that are far from them.

You can find greater magnification, but that will mean a more expensive range finder! For bow hunting, go for a medium-range device so that you get the job done without feeling economically exhausted!

 3: Aiming point

The aiming point or reticle is in the middle of the viewfinder, and as you place it on the body that you are aiming, it ensures an accurate shot. Many range finders work with a laser that turns on when you press a button while aiming.

This laser bounces off the targeted body and reaches your range finder so that it divides the distance by two and displays it for your convenience.

The choice of aiming points and how they work is a personal choice, so be sure to try the range finder when you are buying a new range finder before your hunting adventures begin.

 4: Long-range shooting

Long-range shooting is fast becoming a popular sport, and you might want to rely on a range finder for more success on the range.

A long-range range finder allows archers and users to aim better and improve their shooting! You can rely on a range finder with magnification between 5 and 10 times for shooting.
